The History of iPhone 8: A Premium Phone of Its Time

Suppose you had purchased an iPhone 8 back when it was released, then you would have received a smooth and fast handset that was still quite reminiscent of the original generations of iPhones, albeit with new-school internals. The 8 offered some sense of security in such a market, filled to the brim with extra-large, bezel-less flagships. To many citizens of Bangladesh it was a symbol of status.

Apple launched this phone in September 2017, and around the world, the reviews were raving- it had the same effect in Bangladesh. Its smooth glass back, its wireless charging, its punchy A11 Bionic processor, and the good old Touch ID behind the home button sold this phone (and its user experience) to both the diehard Apple users and new ones, simply because it was (and still is) much better than Android phones.

As the retrospective goes, the iPhone 8 in Bangladesh has had a rather interesting list of airtime and dips with its price tag. Earlier in 2017, anyone who wished to purchase the meagre storage preset of 64GB would have paid approximately BDT 74,999 to BDT 80,000. The price has been updated to 256GB, and the new price is BDT 98,000. Apple continued to appear in that era with small but potent devices, and the country's consumers were fond of the quality they received.       

However, after the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, and iPhone SE 2020 came onto the scene, it is no longer easy to love the iPhone 8. When Apple turned off the switch in 2020, official supplies vanished, and by 2023-2024, even second-hand equipment would start to disappear from the Bangladeshi smartphone market. 

Why Did the iPhone 8 Disappear from the Bangladeshi Market?

The iPhone 8 is currently considered obsolete in Bangladesh as of 2025 for several reasons. Let’s discuss why this phone is no longer available. 

1. Apple stopped production of new ones in 2020. The internal components, the A11 Bionic chip, are outdated. New programs and games require additional power.

2. iOS 16 is still supported; however, going forward, the iPhone 8 may become a thing of the past. That is a security hazard and an incompatibility.

3. People are now interested in the updated model; they want newer-generation iPhones, such as the iPhone SE (2022), iPhone 13, and iPhone 14. The models have newer designs and improved battery capacity, so why continue with the 8?

4. Locating used parts is difficult. They are more expensive, especially in the local markets of Bangladesh.

Should You Buy the iPhone 8 in 2025?

However, if you are purchasing the latest hardware, the iPhone 3GS is not among the best iPhones on the market today.

Then why go after used or flimsy units when they can acquire a good modern one at a decent price? Take a look at the culprits of the odds:
