Apple Watch Ultra

Apple revealed the Apple Watch Ultra in September 2022, a high-end version of the Apple Watch that has been developing for years. The Apple Watch Ultra is designed to compete with more costly fitness-focused smartwatches from companies such as Garmin. It is aimed at sports lovers and athletes who want longer battery life and sport-specific performance.

Design:

The Apple Watch Ultra was designed for endurance, exploration, and adventure, according to Apple. It is the most significant Apple Watch, measuring 49mm Apple Watch Series 8 offered alongside.

The Apple Watch Ultra is the first makeover in years, with a lightweight aerospace-grade titanium shell, flat sapphire crystal face, bigger diameter, and deeper grooved Digital Crown. Also, with side button housing, an additional physical button on the left side is dubbed the Action button.

Features:

The Apple Watch Ultra is the brightest Apple Watch to date, with a brightness of up to 2000 nits, making it easy to view in direct sunlight. The Action button is designed in international orange to be visible in the dark and underwater, and it can trigger Workouts, mark segments, establish Compass Waypoints, and more.

Three built-in microphones boost sound quality, and a beamforming technology captures voice while decreasing ambient background noise even when it's loud outside. If drawing assistance is required, an 86-decibel siren with two SOS patterns is provided.

Battery:

Apple could accommodate a bigger battery because of the giant 49mm shell. The Apple Watch Ultra's battery life is up to 36 hours on one charge, and with a new low-power option, it lasts up to 60 hours for multi-day adventures. The battery lasts long enough for people to finish a long-distance triathlon consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile cycle ride, and a full 26.2-mile marathon.

GPS & Cellular:

The Apple Watch Ultra contains dual-frequency GPS that incorporates both the L1 and L5 bands and updated locating algorithms. It has the most exact GPS of any Apple Watch, which means it can deliver precise distance, pace, and route statistics for training and competition.

The Apple Watch Ultra can survive a broader temperature range to meet more harsh conditions. It operates in temperatures ranging from -4 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 degrees Celsius) to 131 degrees Fahrenheit (55 degrees Celsius). The watch is MIL-STD-810H approved, a standard utilized by military and rugged equipment manufacturers.

Water facility & SOS:

The Apple Watch Ultra can withstand water sports like kitesurfing, wakeboarding, and recreational scuba diving, which are not suggested for ordinary Apple Watch models. The Apple Watch Ultra is WR100 and EN 13319 certified, an internationally known standard for diving gear. The Apple Watch Ultra contains a depth gauge and a unique Depth app that displays current depth, water temperature (using the new temperature sensor), duration underwater, and maximum depth achieved when used for diving.

Customized option:

Apple created a customized Wayfinder watch face for the Apple Watch Ultra, complete with an integrated compass and room for up to eight impediments. The watch face is customizable for the mountain, ocean, or path and glows red at night for increased visibility. The Apple Watch Ultra includes Compass Waypoints for marking a location or point of interest and a Backtrack feature that uses GPS to produce a path manifesting where the user has been, which helps retrace steps when they are lost. The Apple Watch Ultra contains all of the capabilities in the Apple Watch Series 8 and features tailored for exploration and adventure. It records heart rate, sleep, ECG readings, and blood oxygen levels and provides all of the same fitness monitoring choices. All Apple Watch Ultra versions include cellular connectivity, although access to all functionalities requires a cellular plan.

The Apple Watch Ultra contains the same temperature sensor as the Series 8 and is used to assess water temperature and fertility planning for women. It enhances cycle monitoring and can estimate ovulation retroactively.

Motion Sensors:

The Apple Watch Ultra includes motion sensors that allow Crash Detection, which alerts emergency services if you are in a severe automobile accident. When a crash is detected, the Apple Watch checks in with the user and immediately phones 911 if no answer is received after a 10-second countdown.

The Apple Watch Ultra comes with three new sport-focused bands, including the Trail Loop, Alpine Loop, and Ocean Band, as well as existing bands built for 44 and 45-mm Apple, Watches that suit the new model. The Trail Loop band is the thinnest Apple Watch band to date, while the Alpine Loop is constructed of high-strength yarn and has a woven pattern meant to last. The Ocean Band is designed for extreme water activities and is made of a stretchy fluoroelastomer that can fit over a wetsuit.
